Sunday Catechesis
In February 2018, Fr. Rodel Liguid, SVD, announced at the Council of Leaders meeting in Bergheim that he would like Lay Core to present a 15-minute catechesis before the Sunday masses in Sankt Winfried (Bonn) and anticipated masses to other Filipino communities under the Chaplaincy of the Archdiocese of Cologne. Bro. Lando Velasco as coordinator of the Ad-Intra activities of Lay Core is in-charge of the Catechetical Program.
Following are the catechetical themes already presented:
- The Creed
- The Seven Sacraments
- Questions of Faith
- The Liturgy of the Eucharist
- The Six Stages of Faith Development
- The Lord’s Prayer
- The Creed (detailed presentation)
- The New English Transmission of the Roman Missal
- Catholic Prayer and Worship
Reference materials (e.g., CCC, CFC, GIRM), guidelines and power points were provided by Bro. Lando, Sis. Liberty and Fr. Manny Cruz.
In May 2019, Sis. Badette Fischer (community outside of Bonn) and Sis. Malou Fischer (Sankt Winfried) are placed in charge of assigning catechists for the scheduled masses in the Archdiocese of Cologne.
Initial feedback from the community was a mixture of passivity and interest. Gradually, interest and motivation to listen develop. Some parishioners showed appreciation on better understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church and the effort of the catechist. It is also noted that a good number of churchgoers (aside from the Choir?) enter the Church minutes before the catechesis starts. The Holy Spirit is truly at work.?
